In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the Dickson County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) made a decision to put forth a very ‘proactive’ effort to prepare the citizens of Dickson County to meet the challenges faced in disaster situations and therefore organized the Dickson County “Community Emergency Preparedness Fair”. No one knows where the next catastrophe will hit but we do need to know that our community and our families have prepared to the best of our ability.
Take advantage of this free event being provided for the benefit of Dickson residents and their families. Those citizens who did make it out last year only had positive things to say about the event and so many came up and thanked us personally for putting it on. There was a wealth of printed information available to take home to better educate families on emergency preparedness and most everyone left with a bag full of goodies. You could just see the excitement in the children’s eyes for all they were getting to see and there were a lot of really great door prizes donated by participants and awarded at the top of each hour such as fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, flashlights, emergency kits, etc. We have worked hard to pull all of these many agencies in for this event and to set it up at no cost and in a way that is “user friendly” for the attendees, but the true measure of success is knowing that a big percentage of our resident do come out and take advantage of it.
